Artists, photographers capture colors, landscapes of Cape Region

Plein air contest ends with show, sale at Children's Beach House

More than 60 of the region's top artists and photographers showed off their best work after four days of exploring the Cape Region during the first Coastal Sussex Plein Air. The event was sponsored by Children's Beach House, Rehoboth Art League and Food Bank of Delaware. Four days of painting and photography in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Milton, Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge and Bethany Beach culminated with a May 11 and 12 show at Children's Beach House. Work will also be displayed and for sale at the Rehoboth Art League during June.

The winners were:

Painting: First place, Michelle Marshall of Rehoboth Beach; second place, Michael Trainef of West Chester, Pa.; and third place, Anita Peghini-Raber of Rehoboth Beach. Honorable mentions were presented to Libby Zando of Milton; Rosemary Connelly of Milford; and Nancy Carol Willis of Middletown. Cheryl Wisbrock of Bethany Beach won the vanishing landscape top prize. The Artist's Choice Award went to Monique Lazard of Bryn Mawr, Pa.

Photography: First place, Justin Nixon of Baltimore; second place, John Greim of Morristown, N.J.; third place, Ron MacArthur of Lewes. Honorable mentions were presented to MacArthur, Greim and Kevin Fleming of Lewes. The Artist's Choice Award went to Nixon, who also took top honors in vanishing landscape competition.
