Rehoboth library welcomes all for summer reading fun
The Rehoboth Beach Public Library launched its annual Summer Reading Program June 17 with much fanfare, successfully embarking on 10 weeks of adventure-based programs that encourage friendship, ingenuity and discovery.
The kickoff event invited kids to show teamwork and resourcefulness in their approach to the library’s challenges, which included a scavenger hunt, life-size Angry Birds game, inflatable bowling and potato sack races.
Welcoming more than 60 attendees and dozens of program registrants, Children’s Librarian Shannon Davis was impressed with the turnout and inspired by the enthusiasm of the Rehoboth community.
"Although Rehoboth Beach is known as a vacation destination,” Davis said, “it is still a small town at heart. Members of local communities, like the Village Improvement Association and the City of Rehoboth, came out to help with the event and support our kids on their summer reading adventures. Visitors and locals alike enjoyed free Kona Ice, and Miss Katy with Feelings Rock closed the event with music, movement and fun for everyone.”
As part of the Summer Reading Program, readers aged 11 and under can earn five raffle tickets and a free book by finishing 10 books, while readers aged 12 to 18 can earn this prize by finishing five books, with the understanding that book length and difficulty increase with reading level.
Free reading logs will be available for pickup at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library until the Wrap-Up Raffle, which will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 9, in Grove Park off the Rehoboth Avenue traffic circle near the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.
