14th RD Democrats to host candidates July 10

A trio of Democratic candidates will appear at the Wednesday, July 10 meeting of the 14th Representative District Democratic Committee.

Featured speakers will be gubernatorial candidate Matt Meyer; Claire Snyder-Hall, who is running for the RD 14 state representative seat; and Trinidad Navarro, running for re-election as Delaware insurance commissioner.

All will discuss their experience and positions on key issues affecting area voters.

Meyer, one of three Democratic candidates vying for governor, has been the New Castle County executive since 2016. During his tenure, he has worked to protect the environment, create jobs, improve public health and reduce vacant housing. Before entering politics, he worked as a middle school math teacher, attorney, entrepreneur and economic adviser for the U.S. State Department in Iraq.

Snyder-Hall is one of three Democratic candidates seeking to represent the 14th District in the Delaware House of Representatives. She previously served as chair of the 14th RD Democratic Committee and was executive director of Common Cause Delaware for the last five years. A former university professor, she holds a doctorate in political science from Rutgers University and a bachelor of arts degree with honors in psychology from Smith College.

Now in his second term as Delaware’s insurance commissioner, Navarro leads the office to ensure insurance affordability and availability for residents, as well as accountability of insurance companies. A lifelong Delawarean, he served for 20 years with the New Castle County Police and was elected New Castle County sheriff in 2010. He currently serves on state boards such as the Delaware Health Care Commission, the State Employee Benefits Committee and the Plans Management Board.

The program will begin at 5 p.m. with a Dutch treat dinner at Iron Hill Brewery on Route 1 near Rehoboth Beach, followed by remarks from the candidates at 5:30 p.m. and committee business at 6:30 p.m.
