Jean Marie Scott, lifelong farmer

July 16, 2024

Jean Marie Scott, 89, one of a kind, passed away peacefully in her home Saturday, July 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 7, 1935, in Milford, beloved daughter of the late Marie (Deputy) Roach and Douglas Roach. When Jean was just 6, her mother passed away. Then, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Mary (Roach) and Ed Gooner, whom she greatly adored. While in high school, she met her lifetime partner, Daniel Scott, and together they built a family and farm from the ground up. Jean had inexhaustible love for her husband and their seven children. She was a strong-willed, beautiful woman with a ton of determination and grit, and will be extremely missed.

Jean was a lifelong farmer and an office manager for Beltone Hearing Center. She had a love for hummingbirds and classic country music, with her favorite being Waylon Jennings. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, relaxing in her gazebo surrounded by nature, and spending time with her family and her rat terrier, Penny.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Daniel Gibson Scott; son, David Richard Scott; daughter, Sally Anne Scott Jones; and brother, Robert Roach. Jean is survived by her children, Marie Scott, Beverly Anton (Robert), Kimberly Ellison (Tom), Daniel Gibson Scott Jr., Nancy Dodd (Barry); as well as her brother, Joe Roach. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Tracy Holston, Erika Dodd, Tommy Ellison, Russell Jones, Robert Ellison and George Dodd; several great-grandchildren; and extended family.

To honor and celebrate Jean’s life, a private family graveside will be held at Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

Jean lived her life her way, and in case you’re wondering, there’s no picture of her because she wanted it that way.
