The Food Bank of Delaware celebrated Disability Pride Month July 27, at its new Delaware Veterans Boulevard location in Milford.
What makes this café unique is that all the cooks have either physical or learning disabilities.
“This program got started as a summer camp about eight years ago and it’s grown to what you see today,” said Executive Chef Tim Hunter. “We had people in our regular, traditional program that just couldn’t get through. They learn differently, and it just didn’t make sense. This program has provided jobs. In hindsight, they wouldn’t have the opportunity and another way.”
