Pong Bros. hosts community barbecue

August 9, 2024

For anyone who saw smoke billowing across Savannah Road from the Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary’s pavilion in Lewes July 27, there was no need to worry, as it was just the Pong Bros. capcommunity fundraiser barbecue.

In all, more than 973 pounds of chicken was cooked. Each meal came with chips and a pickle. For a little extra, corn on the cob and dessert was available. This year, the Pong Bros., a collection of guys who enjoy ping pong, aimed to raise around $10,000 in honor of 16-year-old Ryan Andrew, and 15-year-old Elijah Ghabour, who tragically died in a car accident July 15.

“As a kid, I did this with my grandfather,” said Jason Burris, the unofficial event coordinator. “Every year in Milford, for 20 years, we would cook chicken and give the money we raised to the hospital. We would like to thank Burris Logistics, Kindle Restaurants, Lloyd’s Market, the families and everyone else involved.”
