Bottle & Cork has been rockin’ since 1936

August 13, 2024

The Bottle & Cork is one of the establishments synonymous with Dewey Beach; after all, it predates the town by 45 years. Harry and Virginia “Ginger” Shaud opened the bar after buying Jack’s Café in 1936. It was a time when Dewey was the end of the road, and the clientele who frequented the place liked it that way. The bar is now owned by Alex Pires and Highway One Companies. The premier concert venue in Dewey Beach has hosted many of the top bands and performers over the years, including an up-and-coming Dave Matthews Band. In this image from the late 1990s, the bill for the night is headliner Fuel with openers Jimmie’s Chicken Shack and Vertical Horizon. The Wailers, best known as the band that played with Bob Marley, is also one of the upcoming acts on the marquee in the photograph.
