August 17, 2024

The Food Bank of Delaware announced The Farmer and The Chef event will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, outdoors in its new 3.5-acre garden at the Milford facility.

This culinary celebration brings together the best of Delaware's local agriculture and culinary talent. Local farmers will team up with some of the state's top chefs to create delectable dishes using fresh, locally sourced, Delaware-grown ingredients.

Guests will have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of distinctive and delicious creations while supporting the vital work of the Food Bank of Delaware. Local culinary students, including the Food Bank’s own, will assist restaurants with serving and hospitality.

"We are excited to bring back this event and shine a spotlight on the incredible talents within Delaware’s food service industry and the dedication of our agricultural community," said Cathy Kanefsky, FBD president and CEO. "This event not only showcases the best of what our state has to offer but also reinforces the vital connection between local farmers, chefs and the Food Bank of Delaware, who work hand in hand to nourish our community.”

Attendees will also be able to explore the Food Bank’s new 3.5-acre garden, which features three greenhouses for year-round growing, field growing space and a memorial garden to honor the country’s veterans. Since the growing season started, the Food Bank has added more than 5,000 plants. The Food Bank of Delaware’s efforts to grow fresh produce highlight its commitment to supplying Delawareans in need with nutritious food.

Tickets are $75 per person. The price includes tasting samples from each participant, beverages, live entertainment from October Oak Music and more. For more information, go to fbd.org/farmer.

Proceeds will go directly toward supporting food distribution programs that bring assistance Delawareans who are food insecure.
