Southern Delaware Chorale is preparing for its 2024-25 season and seeks members of all ages who enjoy singing.
One does not have to be an accomplished singer to join. Many members have participated in school choruses, church choirs or theater groups. Singers of all abilities find Southern Delaware Chorale to be a fun and rewarding way to renew their interest in singing.
The chorale is a non-audition, nonprofit community choir. Under the directorship of Sarah Rose of Lewes and Joseph Shortall of Baltimore, singers will be totally immersed in learning quality choral music in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. There is no need to purchase gowns or tuxedos, as the attire is simply concert black.
The first rehearsal will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 203 N. Bedford St., Georgetown. There will be a potluck dinner with fried chicken, side dishes and desserts. Singers will be able to register and pick up their music for the December concert. This will be a time to meet the conductors and socialize with other members, and it will conclude with a short rehearsal for singers to begin familiarizing themselves with the new music.
Rehearsals will continue weekly from 6:50 to 9 p.m.
Concerts planned for the upcoming season are Light of the World at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7; A Choral Tapestry: Celebrating Black History Month, at 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22; and In Her Own Words, a choral concert featuring works by women composers, lyricists and poets, at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 10. All concerts will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church near Rehoboth Beach.
Members may choose to participate in one, two or all three concerts. The cost for each concert is $75, which includes music. Those who preregister to participate in all three concerts will benefit from a reduced cost of $200 for the year.
The chorale will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in December 2025 and is already making plans for a celebratory performance of Handel's “Messiah,” which was sung at the group’s inaugural concert in 1985.
Southern Delaware Chorale welcomes anyone who has a passion for singing and the desire to perform with a group under the leadership of two capable and passionate conductors.
