Kathy Buschi of Milton will return to the art gallery at Nassau Valley Vineyards to exhibit her work during the month of September.
A reception will be held from 12 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 1, at 32165 Winery Way, Lewes. Refreshments will be available.
A farmers market is also held during those Sunday hours at the vineyard.
Buschi is well known for her Delaware scenes, especially those of the Cape Region. She is a self-taught artist, painting with acrylics and sometimes oils on Masonite. She started painting in 1979 after her husband bought her an oil paint set for Christmas. At that time, she was pregnant with their daughter. Shortly after that, they moved from Long Island, N.Y., to New Hampshire, where the state’s beauty inspired Buschi to paint idyllic pictures of rural early American life.
Buschi’s paintings come alive with people and animals. She often includes her daughter Jessica as a child, along with Phebe and Samantha, the yellow labs Jessica grew up with, in her works. The little red-haired girl with the two yellow labs has become the artist's trademark. Viewers may also spot her grandchildren, a 10-year-old girl and identical twin 7-year-old redheaded boys, in her paintings.
While she has won multiple art awards in several states, Buschi said her greatest reward comes when people say her paintings make them feel happy.
Nassau Valley Vineyards winery and gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily. For details, call 302-645-9463 or go to nassauvalley.com.
