Search called off for missing boater

September 2, 2024

The search for a 48-year-old man off the Delaware coast was called off Sept. 1.

U.S. Coast Guard officials say Dorian Yanke last spoke with a family member about 7:30 a.m., Aug. 26, when he said he was going on a fishing trip near Rehoboth Bay. Officials said Yanke took his white 24-foot Hydra-sport boat to the Indian River Inlet where he intended to fish offshore. The boat has black detailing on the side and black case covers over the engine, officials said.

Yanke was reported missing Aug. 28, and the Coast Guard had searched for more than 88 hours, covering about 15,000 square miles looking for him and his boat.
