In response to Jack Bucchioni’s letter in the Sept. 17 edition: Mr. Bucchioni, the ’50s called, they’d like their chauvinist attitudes back. Really, you aren’t voting for an incredibly qualified, community-oriented candidate like Kim Hoey Stevenson because of who she’s married to? Are you also checking on the spouses of the male candidates?
What a joke. I’d say you don’t know Kim at all. People who know her and her husband are having a hearty laugh at the idea that she would meekly follow anyone.
Her time on Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission was marked by her diligence in thoroughly reading and researching the different applications, asking tough questions and standing up for the people of Sussex, often against the tide of how the commission had always done business.
As a commissioner, she didn’t and couldn’t write ordinances – that’s the job of the elected Sussex County Council. She could only rule on whether a developer had followed the rules (ordinances) or not. Even then, she often successfully negotiated with the developer for changes so the development would have less impact on present and future residents.
I also find your letter interesting, Mr. Bucchioni, since you are part of a Sussex County group that asked Kim to run for Sussex County Council after she resigned from the planning commission. So you liked her then, but not when she dared get out of line on what you – a white male – wanted her to do? Hmmm.
I support Kim Hoey Stevenson for Delaware Senate. She is thoughtful, caring, hardworking and someone who is looking to bring people together to work for the safety, prosperity, beauty and quality of this area and the entire state.
