Snyder-Hall explains why she’s running

September 24, 2024

I would like to thank the Democratic primary voters in RD 14 for choosing me to be their nominee for the Delaware House and putting me on the ballot for Tuesday, Nov. 5. I am proud to be the first woman nominated to represent our district in Dover.

I would also like to thank my former opponent, Marty Rendon, for running a campaign that was tough yet clean, and as the Democratic party moves to unify, heading into the general election, I am deeply grateful to have his endorsement.

As the general election approaches, the Claire for Delaware campaign will continue knocking on doors all over the district, reaching out to everyone who might cast a vote Nov. 5. What I tell people at the doors is this: I led a non-partisan, statewide organization for five years, Common Cause Delaware, an organization that works for campaign finance reform (which is badly needed); vote-by-mail, so that people can vote safely and securely from home (which would be a real benefit for seniors and people with disabilities); and ethical and accountable government. Through that work, I have developed a wide network of good relationships with state legislators and community leaders all over the state. I know the people and how things work in Dover, so I will be ready to work for the people of Rehoboth, Dewey, and Lewes on Day 1.

Before moving to Rehoboth full time in 2011, I spent 20 years in the classroom. I know how education can transform a young person’s life, and that is why I will always support public education, including vocational education, and stand up for students and educators. I am particularly proud to have been endorsed by the Delaware State Education Association.

In 2017, I was fortunate to be able to spend time in Florida, taking care of my mother before she passed away. Caring for her, as well as my father who died of Alzheimer’s in 2012, has taught me a lot about the challenges of aging. We need more long-term care services in Eastern Sussex, and that is one of the things for which I will advocate when I get to Dover.

After my mother passed away, we moved back to Rehoboth because of all the places in the world, this is where we want to be. It is special here. The community is second to none. And that is why I am running for office: I want to help make Eastern Sussex even better, by bringing resources back to the district, crafting laws to make Delaware stronger, and helping constituents with their needs.

The 2024 election is critically important. All over the country, choice is on the ballot, democracy is on the ballot, and in Eastern Sussex, our quality of life is on the ballot. I hope you will consider voting for me, Claire Snyder-Hall, Nov. 5.

Claire Snyder-Hall
Candidate, District 14
Rehoboth Beach
