Bayhealth’s Maricel Buan, CNA, cares for patients at the Bayhealth Kent Campus and has earned a Sunshine Award for her beyond compassionate care.
The Sunshine Award recognizes the vital team members who support our nursing staff and work closely together in order to provide compassionate care to patients. The Sunshine Award is an extension of the DAISY Award “as daisies need sunshine to grow.”
During a hospital stay of any length, caregivers become a constant within a patient’s life. Buan became a rock for her patient during her six-day stay at Bayhealth.
Buan would listen to her patient with her heart and offered support that was “both practical and deeply compassionate.” Buan is beyond empathetic and consistently creates an environment that is comfortable for her patients.
“My healing has been smoother and faster because of Maricel's care and kindness. It shows how a single person can have a great impact on others through genuine kindness, unwavering integrity, and professional competence. She has impeccable integrity and always does her job with a joyful smile and laughter. She is a ray of sunshine,” said Buan’s grateful patient and nominator.
