Charles Howard Ware, Army veteran
Charles Howard Ware of Felton passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was born Jan. 3, 1933, in Sudlersville, Md., to John A. and Elizabeth (Quillen) Ware.
He grew up on a farm in Templeville, Md., where he recalled many cherished childhood memories. Charles graduated from Sudlersville High School in 1951. He was drafted into the U.S. Army that same year, where he proudly served in France during the Korean War.
In his early years, he worked for Playtex Corporation in Dover. Later, he worked at ILC in Frederica. He and his wife Margaret owned and operated Ware’s Market in Felton for 17 years. Upon retirement, Charles worked as a member of the support staff with Berry-Short Funeral Home in Felton and Milford.
Charles was a life member of Harrington Moose Lodge No. 534 and a past master of Union Lodge No. 7 A.F.& A.M. He and Margaret enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to see many places in their life together.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Elizabeth; his sister, Phyllis; a stepson, Ronald A. Hughes; and his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Margaret.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (James) Smith, Carol (John Pender) Pastore, Sandra (Rob) Kramer, Pamela (David) Kaplan and Jennifer (Wesley) Herholdt; and many beloved grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Friday, Oct. 4, at Berry-Short Funeral Home chapel, Main Street, Felton, with visitation from 11 a.m. to noon. Burial will be private at a later date.
