An 80-year-old woman and a 79-year-old man were injured Sept. 30, after their Lexus overturned near Rehoboth Beach Plaza, police said.
The single-car crash happened at 12:04 p.m. in the area of Rehoboth Beach Plaza and Route 1 when the driver of a Lexus RX350, which had been parked in the parking lot at Rehoboth Beach Plaza, was departing the area and suddenly accelerated rapidly, police said.
The car exited the parking lot into green space before striking a tree, rolling over and coming to a stop, police said.
The Rehoboth Beach couple was trapped inside. Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company personnel extracted both occupants, police said, and they were transported to the hospital. One was flown by Delaware State Police aviation, while the other was taken by ambulance for unknown injuries. This collision is still under investigation.
