Bras for a Cause fundraiser supports breast cancer awareness, research

The Women’s Council of Realtors Sussex County held its 2024 Barbie’s Bra-tastic Bras for a Cause fundraiser Oct. 16. The total amount raised to benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and the Beebe Center for Breast Health was $7,000, which the two nonprofit organizations divided equally. A portion of proceeds will also support WCR Sussex County education programs.

Fundraising winners for the Bra Auction were Realtor Larry Linaweaver of Iron Valley Real Estate at the Beach modeling as the Candy Man earning first place, and Realtor Vince DiPietro of Northrop Realty as Patriotic Barbie taking second place. 

The 12th annual event drew an enthusiastic crowd to the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach, and organizers said it was truly amazing to see the number of volunteers who stepped forward to support their cause.

“We take so much for granted in our lives, especially when in good health,” said Robin Gordon Bunting, WCR Sussex County president. “This evening, we’re supporting the cause of breast cancer research and awareness campaigns focused on early detection, and ultimately, a cure for breast cancer.” She went on to thank everyone who sponsored the event and contributed their time and resources with baskets and donations.
