Everett J. Beach, proud marine veteran

Everett J. Beach, 89, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, at Christiana Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 5, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Everett and Ann (Cameron) Beach. He was the husband of Patricia Schilling Beach, who preceded him in death in 2022, and brother to Lorraine Beach, who preceded him in 2020.

He attended St. Boniface Roman Catholic School, Elmont, N.Y., Sewanhaka High School, Floral Park, N.Y., Hofstra College, Hempstead, N.Y., and College of Aeronautics, Flushing, N.Y. Everett went on to serve three years active duty and five years inactive duty in the USMC, and was discharged as a sergeant in the late '50s. He was a life member of  VFW Post 7447, Rehoboth and the Marine Corps League, Diamond State Detachment, and a regular member of  American Legion Post 28, Millsboro.

He was an active fourth-degree member of the Father Vincent R. Capodanno Assembly and a third-degree member of the Star of the Sea Council, Knights of Columbus. Everett held a first-degree black belt in Judo, Kodokan College of Judo, Tokyo, Japan, a first-degree black belt in American Karate and Kung Fu Association, and was a USMC high expert with rifle and pistol with one award toward USMC distinguished rifle marksman. He was also a licensed aircraft, airframe and power plant mechanic.

Everett is survived by his three sons, Kenneth D. Beach (Cindy) of Wilmington, Richard J. Beach (Ginny) of Greenville, S.C., and Edward R. Beach (Jason) of Oakland Park, Fla.; daughter, Jeanne M. McCloskey (Kevin) of Rock Hall, Md.; six grandchildren, Jamie McCloskey (Erin), Stephen McCloskey (Maggie), Lindsay Beach, Ryan Beach, Cameron Beach (Ambar) and Nicholas Beach (Keira); and two great-grandchildren, Madison McCloskey and Landon McCloskey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m.  Burial with military honors will follow at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes.
