Mara Marie Campbell, proud of Italian heritage
Mara Marie Campbell, née Serretti, cherished mother, beloved friend, and lifelong adventurer, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, in Lewes. She was born June 2, 1930, in the quaint seaside town of Castiglioncello, Italy. Mara carried the warmth and spirit of her homeland throughout her 94 years of life.
Mara's legacy includes a successful 25-year career with Marriott in the finance department, where she was known for her meticulous work and warm camaraderie. Beyond her professional achievements, she was an active member of the Red Hat Society, infusing each gathering with her joy and zest for life.
Her love for her garden was surpassed only by the love she had for her family. She leaves behind her son, Robert Eugene "Gene" Campbell; along with a host of relatives still living in Italy. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Giovacchino and Irma (Franchini) Serretti; and her beloved husband, Robert Earle Campbell.
Mara's vibrant spirit will long be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She lived life to the fullest, and her memory will continue to inspire.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where family and friends may begin visiting at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
