Well, once again appropriate access for persons with disabilities must wait because of poor planning and implementation of ramps, overdue since 1970, that were built incorrectly by City of Rehoboth contract personnel.
Noncompliance to the ADA in this city is rampant. Wheelchair, walker and, in some cases, cane users find it impossible to get into restaurants and retail establishments, never mind proper handicap bathrooms or ramps that are built incorrectly.
It’s 2024, folks, 54 years since the ADA law was passed. How long will it take to enforce the law? It is time that persons with disabilities are treated at least as the law prescribes. The days of excuses for noncompliance are long gone, including grandfathering, which is meant to be the exception, not the rule. Hopefully the culture of lack of enforcement changes, or my guess is more will be settled by the courts, which is an unnecessary additional expense. If the city can accepts federal money, it can comply with federal law.
Please don’t make us wait any longer.
