Harry N. White III, active in Lions Club
Harry N. White III, 80, of Millsboro, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born in 1943 in Wilmington to Thelma (Mueller) White and Harry White II, and retired to Millsboro over 20 years ago. He was a wonderful husband and father, and loved spending time with his family. Over the years he enjoyed playing and watching football, crabbing on the pontoon boat, going to the beach, concerts in the park, and going to car shows.
Harry began working for the Getty oil refinery in Delaware City in 1963 and retired 38 years later from Shell. Once he retired, he volunteered at Beebe Hospital for a while and became very involved in Midway Lions Club, where he held numerous offices, and later joined Lewes Lions Club. He was very proud of working on the scholarship committee, collecting food and eyeglasses for the needy, testing children’s eyesight, building ramps, and many other charitable acts.
Harry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn White; daughters, Debbie White and Tricia (Shawn) Kowalewski; son, David White; grandchildren Maddi, Emma and Jonah Kowalewski; and nieces and nephew. He is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Hume; brother, Fred White; and half-brothers, William and Richard White.
The family is very appreciative of the services provided by Delaware Hospice.
Interment will be at noon, Monday, Nov. 25, at Gracelawn Cemetery, 2220 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle. There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon at a later date.
