The sun was shining for the inaugural Wobbler Walk Nov. 27, at the Moorings in Lewes, as about 64 people, including residents and staff members of the retirement community, walked along the new Waddle Way walking path.
Many of the residents like to go on walks once or twice a day on the circular driveway around the property, said 81-year-old Silvie Ritchie.
Mary Lou Poffenberger, 84, for example, said she thinks the new path is great, as she and her husband, Wright Poffenberger, try to go on walks daily.
But according to Director of Resident Services Theresa Kelly, the residents often stray around, posing a safety risk due to cars. The new duck feet markings on the path, which took about three days to complete, aim to create a safer walking environment for the residents, establishing a clearer line between the pedestrian walkway and the driveway.
Gale Bourassa, leading the residence’s wellness committee, helped Kelly to bring the project to life.
