Charlotte R. Wieland, family matriarch, beloved educator
Charlotte R. Wieland, “Mimi,” a beloved educator and devoted family matriarch, passed away peacefully at home in Rehoboth Beach Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024. She was born May 1, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late George L. Ralph and Charlotte O'Brien Ralph, and was a shining example of wisdom and kindness throughout her 90 years.
After a fulfilling 40-year career as a teacher, Mimi retired in 1996 but never ceased to be an impassioned learner, instilling her love for knowledge in her family and students. She pursued her interests with zest, traveling widely, indulging her passion for British culture as an avid Anglophile, and was often found with a book in hand. Mimi enjoyed helping her family and community. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and at family gatherings.
Mimi’s legacy is carried on by her daughter, Abigail Wieland; her grandson, Aaron Smolin (Maria Laun); and numerous nieces and nephews, who will continue to cherish her memory. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters and brothers.
Mimi’s life was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, education, and community betterment. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 16, at St. Edmond Church, 401 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Epworth Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mimi’s honor may be made to Cape Henlopen Food Basket, P.O. Box 168, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
