Advent Wreath Candle Lighting Liturgy

November 30, 2024
Join us on St. Peter’s Facebook Page every Sunday at 5:30 PM for a special, brief Advent Wreath Candle Lighting Liturgy led by the Rev Dr Elizabeth Kaeton.
In addition to celebrating Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love in church, and listening to the Prophets of Advent, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Malachi, Micah, and John the Baptist, we will reclaim the narratives of four of the five women named in the Genealogy of Matthew (1:1-17) who are the Heralds of the Incarnation: Tamar of Judah, Rahab the Canaanite of Jericho, Ruth of Moab, and Bathsheba the Righteous.
The hope is that you might use this liturgy as you light your own Advent Wreath each week, and pray for Tamar’s intelligence and bold imagination, Rahab’s defiance and ability to make the most of what we’ve been given in service of others, Ruth’s faithfulness and strength, and Bathsheba’s courage and righteousness, that shame, vulnerability and grief may be transformed and, through us as with them, wisdom and salvation may be born again.
