The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously voted to approve the conditional-use permit requested by US Wind to build an electric substation next to another substation, in an area zoned heavy industrial, one-third of a mile from residences. What’s not to like about such a permit? Add to these justifications, high-paying union jobs for electricians, $200 million in electric transmission infrastructure improvements, and decreased electrical costs for Delawareans, and you have a winner.
Because the proposed project is so clearly legally acceptable, it would be an expensive irony were Sussex County Council to vote no to the permit request. Burdening residents with costly legal fees sure to result in an overthrow of the negative vote would not be fair to Sussex Countians.
I urge a yes vote to the conditional-use permit submitted by US Wind.
