John Michael Bibb, devout Christian, teacher

December 13, 2024

John Michael Bibb, 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, in Wilmington, surrounded by loving family members. Born May 19, 1939, to James and Harriet (Brondstetter) Bibb in West Branch, Mich., John's journey was marked by dedication to education, an enduring love for his family, and a steadfast commitment to his faith.

A beloved husband and cherished father, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra (Doolittle) Bibb; daughter, Eunice Geiger (Kevin); brother, James Bibb; and grandson, John Matthew K. Bibb. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Ruth Ann Adams-Bibb; children, Lawrie (Bibb) Grube (Bryan), Lee Bibb (Susan), Mary Dickerson (Chad) and Rebekah Bibb; foster daughter, Jennifer Justus; sister, Mary Jane Brewster (Keith); and numerous foster children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom benefited from his adventurous spirit, selflessness, and loving nature.

After graduating from Washington and Jefferson College in 1961, John shaped young minds as a physics teacher at Sussex Central High School. His passion for education was paralleled only by his zeal for serving the Lord. As a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Georgetown, John served as a deacon for several terms and extended his goodwill beyond local borders through mission trips to Ecuador and Argentina.

John's life was an embodiment of service and love, a testament to the man he was both in the classroom and beyond. He will be profoundly missed and eternally remembered for his enduring warmth, wisdom, and the light of Christ he shone upon everyone he touched. John's journey on earth concludes, but his legacy of selflessness and love will resonate for generations to come.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. A time of visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
