Bettye Wicker, loved singing, dancing
Bettye Wicker went home peacefully to the Lord and her beloved parents Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024. Bettye was born in Meridian, Miss., June 19, 1943, to the late Clifford O'dell and Eula Mae Avera.
Bettye was a My Father's Way Memory Care Home resident in Salisbury, Md. Bettye loved her days there with friends, singing and dancing to Elvis, Johnny Cash, and all the oldies. While most days she couldn't tell you what she just had for lunch, she could sing every word to every song with a big smile on her face. She will be missing the Christmas Eve pajama party this year. Bettye loved all the amazing staff at My Father's Way, especially her special friend, Frances Donaldson. She was truly blessed to have found a great facility and a home we considered family.
The family would like to thank all the staff, Frances, Angie, and Uncle Darrell at My Father's Way for the wonderful years Bettye spent with you, and most importantly, for the loving and compassionate care received in her final days. We are truly grateful.
As a former military wife, Bettye traveled all over the U.S., calling several states home. Bettye was also blessed to visit Israel twice in her lifetime - both times getting baptized in the Jordan River. A highlight of her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Clifford O'dell and Eula Mae Avera; and her favorite brother-in-law, Roy Hayhurst Sr.
Bettye is survived by her daughter, Sandi (Keith) Johnson of Millsboro; her son, Eddie (Tracie) Lloyd of Enterprise, Ala.; her sister, Mary Ann Hayhurst of Arlington, Texas; a brother, Larry (Pam) Avera of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; grandchildren, Casey Minard of Ocean View, Tyler Lloyd of Enterprise, Natalie (Larry) Griffin of Butte, Mont., Shelbie (Wade) Whited of Greenville, S.C., and Shane Minard of Milton.
A graveside service will be held in Meridian, Miss., in February.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to My Father's Way Home Care, 1106 Tuscola Ave., Salisbury, MD 21801
