Charlotte Burton McDaniel, lifetime auxiliary member

Charlotte Burton McDaniel, 93, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at Country Rest Home in Greenwood. She was born at home Aug. 27, 1931, daughter of the late Samuel J. and Amelia Dutton Burton.

She attended Rehoboth High School and later worked for many years as a store clerk for the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store and the Sears Catalog Store, both in the Midway area. Her entire lifetime was spent in the Rehoboth Beach area, where she supported many local endeavors, including being a member of the Running River Pocahontas, having served at the state level, and as a lifetime member of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Working and gardening in her yard, and playing bingo brought her many hours of enjoyment.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar L. McDaniel Jr., in 1992; her daughter, Louella Dirks; son, Douglas Wardrup; and siblings, Violet and her husband Dan, Betty Nailor, Helen and husband Lester Nailor, John and his wife Joan Burton, Bob Burton, and Fred Burton.

She is survived by sons, Lee J. McDaniel and Thomas Park McDaniel (Barbara); daughter, Brenda L. Stevenson (James); daughter-in-law, Linda Wardrup; sister, Ellen Lynch (Rick); sister-in-law, Marge Burton; brother-in-law, Preston Nailor; nine grandchildren, Donald Dirks, Stacey McDonald (Jason), Kim Dorian, Jenifer Wardrup (Alex), Jason Wardrup (Jocelyn), Lee McDaniel II (Taylor), Bradley McDaniel (Samantha), Cheryl Keffer and Tracy Ingram (Randy); 13 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 20, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where a viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach.
