John Joseph Carroll Jr., proud Army veteran
John Joseph Carroll Jr., 82, of Millsboro, formerly of Maryland, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.
He was born in Providence, R.I., April 8, 1942, son of the late John Joseph Carroll Sr. and the late Marie (McCormick) Carroll. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Dominican Civil War.
John retired from McCarthy & Associates and loved his retirement. He loved sports and was a true Red Sox fan. He was affectionately known as “Red Sox John” and raised his entire family to be Red Sox fans. In addition to being a Red Sox fan, John would also root for his beloved Redskins.
John will be remembered as a jokester and for his wonderful Irish sense of humor. He had a love for his family, and was blessed that his entire family moved to Delaware after he and his beloved wife, Kathy, retired and moved here in 2007, where his strong bond with his grandchildren continued to blossom.
In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen (Schlaudecker) Carroll, he is survived by three sons, Patrick Carroll and his wife Kimberly of Millsboro, Timothy Carroll and his wife Keri of Millsboro, and Michael Carroll and his wife Beth of Millsboro; eight grandchildren, Kristina Lewis and her husband Keith, Kaileigh Carroll, Brian Carroll, Karleigh Carroll, Autumn Messick and her husband Chad, Keirstyn Carroll, Sean Carroll, and Shane Carroll; four great-grandchildren, Annalynn Lewis, Trinity Lewis, Ronnie Lewis and Lailah Messick. John is also survived by a brother, Christopher Carroll of Colorado; and a sister, Mary Jane Carroll of Connecticut.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
