William David Lambrose Sr., veteran, avid sports fan

William David “Dave” Lambrose Sr., 77, of Seaford, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, surrounded by his loving family.

Dave was born June 29, 1947, in Fredericksburg, Va., to his parents, Thomas and Martha (Eddins) Lambrose.

At 16, he became a longtime resident of Sussex County. Dave served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of the American Legion Post 19 in Laurel. He owned Dave Lambrose and Son Inc. for over 40 years. Dave was an avid sports fan (professional and collegiate) and some of his favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and Georgia Bulldogs. He liked water skiing, fast cars, country music, and dancing, and was an avid poker player.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Smith; and his father-in-law, Richard Bailey.

Dave is survived by his wife, Janice (Dutton) Lambrose; son, William David Lambrose Jr. (Kateri); daughter, Deena Lambrose; stepdaughters, Laurie (Moore) Trice (Keith); Elizabeth (Moore) Helm (Keith); brother, Thomas “Tucker” Lambrose (Linda); sister, Carol Hitchens; mother-in-law, Marlene Bailey; brother-in-law, Donnie Dutton (Vicki); sisters-in-law, Cindy Bunting (Mike), Wanda Smith (Dennis), Debbie Sharp (Henry) and Lori Bailey (Lisa); grandchildren, Troy Lambrose (CarolAnne), Kyrsten Lambrose and Alayna Lambrose; step-grandchildren, Kelli Trice and Kyle Trice (Taylor); great-grandson, Easton David Lambrose; step-great-grandchildren, Aubrey Jones, Piper Vannicola, and Ava and Hunter Trice; bonus grandson, Phillip Vannicola; and many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors. 

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:30 p.m.
