Sussex Bird Club to host ‘What an Owl Knows’ author Jan. 12

January 3, 2025

The Sussex Bird Club and Lewes Public Library will present an online discussion with author Jennifer Ackerman about her book, “What an Owl Knows,” at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, via Zoom.

Participants are welcome to view the presentation at the library, 111 Adams Ave. in Lewes, or from home. Registration is required. To sign up, go to tinyurl.com/LPLAuthorEvents or call 302-645-2733. At registration, participants will be asked to select in-library or at-home viewing for the virtual program.

Ackerman will share a multimedia presentation based on her book that highlights the nature of these enigmatic birds. Using remarkable photos, videos and audio recordings, she will explore the rich biology and natural history of owls, and examine remarkable new scientific discoveries about their brains and behavior.

“Many of our members are familiar with Jennifer from reading her wonderful book, ‘Birds by the Shore,’” said Nancy Cunningham, Sussex Bird Club vice president of programs. “As birders, we know that nothing creates excitement like finding an owl, whether it be a rare snowy owl at Cape Henlopen, a screech owl at Prime Hook or the short-eared owls that come to Fowler Beach in winter. Jennifer’s lecture will help us all learn more about these most interesting birds we just love.”
