Mispillion Art League judged show on display thru March 29

January 30, 2025

Highlighting a spectacular variety of artistic talent in the community, Mispillion Art League’s 22nd Annual Judged Show is open to the public through Saturday, March 29, at 5 N. Walnut St., Milford.

Taking home the Best in Show ribbon is Michael Fleishman with his mixed-media piece, “Many Are Cold but Few Are Frozen.”

Fleishman does not buy his primary medium at the art supply store. “I work in cardboard. Said loud and proud. A whole career doing ostensibly high art has led me to the recycling bins, of all places, to create my best stuff yet,” said Fleischman. Household recycling like egg crates, moving containers, cereal boxes, and pizza rounds are the basis of his latest work. He layers an abundance of small geometric pieces of cardboard as a canvas on which to draw and paint.

Awards were also given and categorized by medium. The show was judged by Deb Hansen, a retired Delaware Department of Education associate for visual and program arts. Re-creating her printmaking and textile studio as a Lewes resident, she is a member of the boards of the Delaware Arts Alliance and the Biggs Museum of American Art.
