‘Steel Magnolias’ auditions set in Milford March 2-3

Milford’s Second Street Players will hold open auditions for their 2025 spring production, “Steel Magnolias,” from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 2, and Monday, March 3, at the Riverfront Theater, 2 S. Walnut St., Milford. If needed, callbacks will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 5.

Written by Robert Harling, the show will be directed by Becky Craft with Glen Pruitt as assistant director. 

The show is performed by a cast of six women. Auditions will consist of a cold reading from the script. Those auditioning will need to provide a headshot (amateur or professional) to the director that will be part of the audition form; photos will not be returned.

The story is set in Louisiana, where the ladies who are “anybody” go to Truvy’s beauty salon to have their hair done. Helped by her new assistant, Annelle, outspoken Truvy not only does hair, but also provides free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon Ouiser, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter Shelby will be marrying a good ole boy. In a tale filled with humor, verbal repartee, love and loss, the ladies are confronted with their own mortalities while drawing strength and love from each other.

Performance dates will be Friday to Sunday, May 9 to 11, and May 16 to 18. To be considered for casting, those auditioning must be available for all performances and during the two weeks prior to opening night.
