More than 500 people turned out under sunny skies June 3 for the first Picnic in the Park sponsored by Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park.
"The picnic exceeded our expectations. We stopped selling tickets at 575 because we thought it might be too much for the space, and we wanted to ensure that everyone had a good time," said Chairwoman Stephanie Boright. "The stars aligned for us – the weather, the food, the entertainment and the crowd were all perfect."
Plans are already under way for the second annual picnic for up to 750 people.
All proceeds benefit programming and maintenance in the park. The event featured 13 local restaurants offering a variety of food, children's games and music.
