The Eagles are reloading

March 7, 2025

I thought NFL teams had to wait another week to talk to their own free agents, but apparently not, and the Eagles aren’t messing around. First, they extended Saquon Barkley's contract for three years. Now, they’ve signed Zack Baun, their All-Pro linebacker, for three years. The negotiation window for free agents on different teams starts Monday, so I’m curious what the Eagles are planning to do to give themselves the best chance to repeat as Super Bowl champions, which has been historically difficult to do. The best person available to trade for is Miles Garrett, a defensive end from the Cleveland Browns. No one knows how much the Eagles will have to give up to get him.

I also heard that Deebo Samuel may be traded to the Washington Commanders from the San Francisco 49ers March 12. He’s also a great player.

Right now, it is very difficult to project how the Phillies are doing in spring training because the team's starting players don’t play much. On Wednesday, they played on the road against the Detroit Tigers and lost 17-7, but it was mostly AAA players. The games get more serious after St. Patrick’s Day when there are only 10 days before Opening Day. This year, the Phillies start against the Washington Nationals on the road.

In local sports, congratulations goes out to both the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams from Cape Henlopen for advancing to the second round of the girls’ tournament and the quarterfinals on the boys’ side. Cape also had two state champions in wrestling and two very strong swim teams. Go Cape!
