Longtime Cape educator receives $10K scholarship toward doctorate
Lisa Morris, assistant supervisor of human resources in the Cape Henlopen School District, was recently named the recipient of a doctoral scholarship from the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
DKG promotes professional and personal growth of women educators as well as excellence in education. By providing graduate scholarships to members, the organization emphasizes leadership development for its more than 50,000 members in 17 countries. Morris is a member of the society’s Delaware Beta Chapter, and she is pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership through Wilmington University. Morris is part of a doctoral cohort that has been established as a partnership between Wilmington University and the Cape Henlopen School District.
Karen Evans, International Scholarship Committee chair, recently announced the scholarship awards. “We granted eight doctoral scholarships of $10,000 each for the 2025-26 academic year,” Evans said.
Recipients must have earned a master’s degree, be enrolled in a recognized doctorate program and have been a society member for at least three years to be considered for the scholarship. Since the scholarship program’s conception in 1940, the society has given 1,206 women educators more than $5,800,000 in scholarships. In addition to international scholarships, many state organizations and local chapters also have scholarship funds to assist members pursuing graduate study.
“It’s an honor to be a recipient of this highly esteemed scholarship,” said Morris. “While the scholarship certainly has a positive impact financially, it also reinforces my commitment to achieving my academic and career goals. I am deeply grateful for the support from the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society and look forward to making a meaningful impact in my field.”
