Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary seeks Flags for Heroes sponsors

Grant funds benefit a variety of local community groups
April 20, 2025

The Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club is seeking sponsors its Flags for Heroes displays at five locations.

American flags on display honor veterans, first responders and other local heroes.

The club’s goal is to display more than 500 flags beginning Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, with smaller displays to follow on Independence Day, Friday, July 4, and Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Flag display sites will include The Circle in Georgetown, Delaware Technical Community College Owens Campus in Georgetown, and other locations in Millsboro, including the post office and the new police station.

All proceeds from flag sponsorships go to support charitable organizations in the Georgetown and Millsboro ZIP codes, with an emphasis is on helping people rather than physical buildings or facilities. In the past 11 years, proceeds from these displays have provided more than $216,000 to support a variety of local community projects.

Tax-deductible flag sponsorships are $50 per flag. To learn more, contact any Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary member or go to gmrotary.org.  With G-M Rotary indicated in the memo line, checks and sponsorship forms can be mailed to Delaware Community Foundation, P.O. Box 492, Lewes, DE 19958.

Recent grant recipients include Primeros Pasos early learning program; Sussex Community Crisis Housing Services peer counseling program; Sussex County Habitat for Humanity construction materials for local projects; Read Aloud Delaware’s fund to build an outdoor library box in Georgetown; Scouting America Del-Mar-Va Council to fund camp scholarships for youth in need; Kent-Sussex Industries for purchase of touchscreen computers for job training to benefit individuals with disabilities; Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition for education and funding of women’s health screenings; and Vision to Learn screenings for local students.
