Joan Ruth Wagner, enjoyed simple pleasures

Joan Ruth Wagner, "Noanie," 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday, April 4, 2025, in Lewes. Born April 23, 1931, in Chester, Pa., Joan led a life distinguished by generosity, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.

Joan will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children: Wayne Abmeyer, Pamela Bazzoli, Kimberly Briggs (Gary) and Sandra Scott (Mark). Her legacy will live on through the memories and stories shared by her grandchildren: Lisa, Jennifer, Anthony, Ernest, Nichole, Jonathan, Addison and Chelsea; as well as her nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles B. Wagner, and her son, Scott Abmeyer.

Joan was a dedicated member for more than 20 years of St. George's Chapel, where she served on the Altar Guild and volunteered at St. George’s Thrift Shop. Her spirit of service extended to her work with the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and she volunteered at hospitals near her homes in Pennsylvania and Florida. Joan was also a member of the Lewes Senior Center.

Joan found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed travel, puzzles and reading, and as an enthusiastic card player, Joan was always up for a game!

Joan will be remembered for her warmth, kind heart, wonderful sense of humor and deep commitment to her family. She often said, "I've had a wonderful life."

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 3, at St. George’s Chapel, 20271 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Joan's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
