Bridge at Route 1/Route 16 intersection is poor planning

April 18, 2025

With the opening of the southbound Route 1 bridge at Route 16, it means there will be no stoplights from I-95 all the way down to Five Points.

This also means that there will be longer backups at Five Points and, much more importantly, there will be fewer breaks in opposing traffic for cars on Route 1 to make left turns at the many crossovers.

And because poor drivers don’t time their crossovers properly, and far too many people don’t have the patience to wait for enough of a break in traffic to make it across, there will be a much greater danger of serious and deadly accidents in the stretch from Route 16 to Five Points.

This is very poor planning by DelDOT and will have deadly consequences. So let’s all be very careful out there.
