Yogi Bear and BooBoo spend summer at Delaware Beaches Jellystone Park

June 17, 2012

Yogi Bear and his sidekick BooBoo are spending their summer in Delaware, looking for picnic baskets, making trouble for the rangers and playing with visitors. It's a Hanna-Barbera delight presented by Delaware Beaches Jellystone Park, just off of Route 1 in Lincoln.

He's smarter than the average bear, said Yogi Bear's friend in crime, Lynne Maloy, general manager of Delaware Beaches Jellystone.

"I spend a lot of my time keeping an eye on his antics," said Maloy. "Ranger Jim is constantly on the move trying to catch the bears, but so far, so good! All is as it should be at Jellystone Park!”

According to one of the owners of the park, Brent Fannin, "Memorial Day was full of laughter as Yogi Bear and BooBoo played games with the campers, went on hay rides, watched movies, did tie-dye and even danced in the streets.”

According to Fannin, "Yogi Bear and BooBoo were a delight.” But that's not how Ranger Jim saw it. He had many complaints of missing hot dogs, and s'mores without marshmallows. Baskets of food went AWOL followed quickly by the bears innocently napping under a tree. Ranger Jim saw a connection, but the rest of the gang just smiled and went on with their fun.

This is the first summer BooBoo has been at Delaware Beaches Jellystone Park, and the second for Yogi Bear. As the days get longer, the crowds get bigger and Yogi Bear and BooBoo revel in the excitement. Fannin was a happy camper himself, as Yogi Bear and BooBoo were tucked into bed each night. "The bears have their own specially made cabin, with beds designed especially for their comfort," said Fannin. “In fact, we have a number of cabins available right near Yogi Bear and BooBoo's house that you can rent. That is, of course, if you don't have a camper or RV. We have lots of room and spaces for RVs and even a few RVs to rent."

The heat didn't bother anyone, according to Maloy. "The pool was the perfect color blue and cool as a cucumber and the biggest water slide I have ever seen was there for the amusement of the crowds. I saw a lot of - shall we say, older folks - running up and down the slide. It was great."

“Delaware has much to offer,” said Fannin, "and now we can add Delaware Beaches Jellystone Park into the mix of the wonders of our great state."

Delaware Beaches Jellystone Park will be open all summer. For more information go to www.delawarebeaches.com or call 302-491-6614.
