Davis certified as a crime and trauma scene bio-recovery technician

July 5, 2012

Michael Rafferty, owner of Paul Davis Emergency Services of  Coastal Delaware and Maryland, recently completed studies in Piedmont, S.C., earning internationally-recognized certifications in Crime and Trauma Scene
Bio-Recovery from the National Institute of Decontamination Specialists.

"Receiving in-depth training provides our customers with advanced
technologies in crime and trauma scene cleanup services," said Rafferty.

"Crime and trauma scene clean-up is a necessary service, and certainly one
that you want to get right the first time while working with law enforcement
and investigative teams," he said.  "We are continuing our commitment to
serve Paul Davis customers with the highest standards of training in our
field."

According to Rafferty, scenes of injury or death frequently result in
contamination of the environment from blood and body fluid spills, human
tissue and bone fragments.  Also, in the cases of delayed discovery deaths,
decomposition fluids and odors can contribute to the contamination.

"In addition to being psychologically harmful to view, these human remnants
have the potential to harbor disease that can cause a lifetime of illness or
even death," said Rafferty.

"Crime scenes are also frequently contaminated by police forensic chemicals. These chemicals can be hazardous as well as difficult to remove," he said. During the training and through realistic scenarios and intensive classroom interaction, Rafferty learned how to safely remove all biological contamination and cleanup all investigative chemicals while protecting himself and others during emotionally charged scenes.

"Unfortunately, absentee death, crime scenes, and other forms of trauma
happen.  Contrary to what many believe, dumping bleach on these situations
won't render them safe," Rafferty said. "This science-based education
provides Paul Davis customers with the best service possible.  There is no
margin for error on these jobs, and doing the job right is our way of
showing the greatest form of compassion we can offer to our clients."
