Salisbury University professors to host Mosaic Art Walk at AerieArt Gallery in Rehoboth Aug. 11

August 8, 2012

The Space Between Us, an exhibit on display through Saturday, Sept. 15, at AerieArt Gallery in Rehoboth, opens during the Mosaic Second Saturday art walk from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11.  James Hill, sculptor, and Jinchul Kim, Brooke Rogers and Paul Flexner, painters, all teach in the Salisbury University Art Department.

Hill received his fine arts education from the University of New Mexico and Columbia University.  On display will be several of his recent sculptures, including a new bronze depicting a panther, owl and shell with a pearl.

Kim earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from King Sejong University, Seoul, Korea, in 1985, and masters of fine arts degrees from the same South Korean university in 1987, as well as from the School of Visual Art, New York City, in 1992.  In the late 1990s, Kim was introduced to the Rehoboth-area arts community when he conducted painting workshops at the Rehoboth Art League.  One of his photorealistic paintings to be on display will be “Stay Inside Until Somebody Finds Us.”

Flexner earned an interdisciplinary BFA degree from Tyler School of Art, and an MFA degree in painting from Penn State University. He began his career in art as an illustrator and syndicated cartoonist for Philadelphia newspapers. He worked at Accu-Weather Inc., where his daily news, weather and sports graphics were syndicated throughout North America.  He maintains a studio that combines computers and easels under the same roof, and many of his oil paintings for the Rehoboth show contain digital effects.  Flexner’s work is exhibited regionally, as well as internationally in Stuttgart, Germany.

Rogers is the most abstract of the four Salisbury University art professors exhibiting their work at AerieArt Gallery.  Rogers grew up in Ocean City, Md., where he still resides.  Graduating from the Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute and College of Art in Baltimore, he maintains studios in Newark, Md., and Manhattan, N.Y.

AerieArt Gallery is open daily except Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and by appointment, 302-584-6402.
