Junior lifeguards representing seven different beach patrols, ranging from Rehoboth Beach south to Ocean City, Md., gathered in Rehoboth Beach Aug. 6 for the annual Junior Lifeguard Competition.
The junior guards were divided into age groups and competed in a variety of running, swimming and rescue board events. It was a friendly competition with no overall score being kept, but those who placed in the individual events definitely earned their spots.
Junior guard ages range from 5 to 16 years old, and they usually meet on their respective beaches during the week before the lifeguards take their stands.
