Former Cape Henlopen School Teacher Sharon Vernon Endorses Glen Urquhart for Senate
September 6, 2012 – Today, Sharon Vernon, announced her endorsement of Glen Urquhart for the newly created 6th State Senate District seat. The 6th District will serve the Milton, Harbeson, Lewes, Rehoboth and Dewey Beach area.
“I am supporting Glen Urquhart because I know that he will serve Delaware’s 6th Senate District with distinction,” says Sharon Vernon, a former schoolteacher in the Cape Henlopen School District. “He has a sincere desire to face the challenges that come with this position. He and Angela have five children and fifteen grandchildren and he understands the value of a good education. He can be counted on for improving our schools and as a former teacher, this is very important to me. I hope that you will join me in voting for Glen Urquhart on September 11th.”
Urquhart welcomed Vernon’s endorsement by saying, “I am thankful for Sharon and her husband Bill’s support. Sharon spent years in the school system as an accomplished and loved teacher. My campaign is thankful for her support.”
As the Republican nominee for the United States House of Representatives in 2010, Glen won over 70% of the election districts making up the new 6th State Senate District. He has served as Chairman of the Sussex County Republican Committee as well as on the Delaware State Police Advisory Council for Troop 7. Presidents Reagan and Bush appointed him to chair a Presidential Commission.
Born in Pittsburgh in 1948, the great grandson of an indentured servant, Urquhart was the first in his family to graduate from college in 1971 from the University of Virginia. Shortly after graduating, he founded Urquhart & Company. As an entrepreneur, Glen has started and been successful in numerous business ventures.
Now retired from decades of building businesses and creating jobs, Glen is running for the 6th State Senate District seat to help restore economic growth. “Being an advocate for my neighbors will be my full-time job. I will have no other competing interests. My constituents will be my only boss. My commitment will be to create jobs in Sussex County, reduce energy costs for employers and families, curb excessive government that impedes job creation, improve education, and enhance public safety,” says Urquhart. “Having walked in their shoes, I will be the ally employers need to start hiring again.”
