The Sept. 30 Dogfish Dash five and dime commenced at 8 a.m and saw 1,547 starting runners cross the finish line from 18 minutes to one hour and 35 minutes later. By 10 a.m., the Dogfish brew was being pulled and poured.
“Just perfect weather and everyone just loves this race,” said race director Tim Bamforth, whose son Ben and wife Monique ran the 10K.
The race is for the fleet of feet but not elite as there is plenty of hardware to be picked up in the age group categories that are broken into 10 year intervals. The Dog Fish Dash is a happening. The field of 1600 fills up the first day registration becomes available. The town of Milton does a stupendous job "putting on the dog" and supporting the Sunday morning marauding mass of runners.
Jeff Powers won the overall 10K race in a time of 33:14, followed by Enos Benbow in 34:49.
Karrie Stewart won the women’s race in 40:52, followed by Lisa Jalot in 42:12.
There were 649 runners who elected the 10K distance.
The race was computer chip timed by lin-mark.com and runners were checking results in their iPhones before the race was over. A fleet foot fantasy league for families of runners is just a step away.
Greg Cauller won the 5K race in 18:08, followed by Adam Jones in 18:17. Lynn Knothe was the women’s winner in 19:58. Liz Butterly was second in 20:58. There were 898 in the 5K race.
