“It’s an amazing coup for us to be able to draw such a multi-talented celebrity to our bookstore,” said Browseabout Manager Susan McAnelly. “We’ve had a huge response from the community and people have already placed hundreds of copies of Bam’s book on reserve for the book signing. Fans literally started yelling to their friends and jumping when they saw our in-store announcement.”
Knowing that Bam holds the personal appearance attendance record at the Mall of America, with approximately 30,000 screaming fans, McAnelly says she’s not surprised at the response.
Daredevil, rebel, irreverent, relentless, dynamic, sensuous, hypnotic, funny, crass, hedonist, creative, frenetic - there aren’t enough words to describe Bam. According to his newly released book, he’s “Serious as Dog Dirt!”
Though “Serious as Dog Dirt!” resembles a school text, be assured that no school district is going to place this book on its required reading list.
A cross between a personal journal, collage and scrapbook, “Serious as Dog Dirt!” is a compilation of Bam’s personal notes, photos and drawings that carry you through his life from Jan. 1, 1997 through June, 2009.
The book, itself, is art. It is raw and chaotic. Bam reveals his life with an openness and honesty that is both brutal and beautiful. It is for every person who has ever wondered who Margera is and for every person who wants to remember what it is like to be young, crazy, reckless and willing to chase dreams.
Margera’s appearance at Browseabout, Delaware’s largest independent bookstore, continues its tradition of bringing renowned celebrities to the Cape region.
Regular appearances by national and international bestselling authors are complimented by visits from luminaries like Vice President Joe Biden, designer and television personality Tim Gunn, and cartoonist and animal rescue activist Patrick McDonnell.
April Margera proves humor is genetic
Glimpse a different side of Bam Margera’s life in his mother’s cookbook, “April Cooks – ‘There’s an Alligator in my Kitchen.’” Known as the “mom” from MTV’s “Viva La Bam” and “Jackass,” April intersperses food and drink recipes with family photos and simple words of advice like, “Always have fun in your kitchen – and watch your back.”
The recipes themselves tell as much of the Margera family story as the photos. Consider the “Dunn Deal,” a vodka and melon liqeur created in honor of Ryan Dunn and described as “Kind of a vodka smoothie but has more of a prick.” Then there’s the “Busted Bam,” a vodka and cranberry juice mixture that April writes, “Tastes good after a bad day.”
For dessert, there’s “Jackass Cake” (“The only person who could mess this up would be a jackass”) and “Fake Dog Poop.” For dinner, “Spicy Salt-Rubbed Chicken” serves 15 starving self-proclaimed stunt men, and “sloppy Jesses” are so good that April claims she could talk Bam’s older brother out of going anywhere if she was making them.
Much more than a family expose’, April Margera’s cookbook has about 80 illustrated, easy-to-make recipes that promise something to satisfy everyone you know.
April Margera will also be visiting Browseabout Books Saturday, Dec. 5.
