16 Mile celebrates Delaware Day

December 17, 2012

Several hundred people celebrated Delaware's 225th birthday by drinking beer, consuming specialties from a variety of local restaurants and enjoying the grooves of area musicians at 16 Mile Brewery in Georgetown.

Delaware Day was created to honor the state's birth on Dec. 7, 1787, the first of the colonies to sign the Constitution of the United States. The event featured 16 Mile's entire selection of beer, including its collaborations with other breweries and nonprofit organizations, as well as food from Bethany Blues, King's Ice Cream and Patty's. Live music was played simultaneously in the brewery's new tavern and a small tent just outside.

The event served as a fundraiser for Children and Families First, and several other nonprofit organizations were in attendance at the inaugural event. 16 Mile donated $1 from every pint sold at the event, totaling about $500 for Children and Families First.
