World's largest St. Patrick's Day hat to float in Ocean City parade March 16

The world's largest St. Patrick’s Day hat, big enough to hold 1,724 pints of stout, will float in the 2013 Ocean City St. Patrick’s Day Parade at noon, Saturday, March 16. Requesting world record book status, CPRDelaware’s float will also feature baby and adult CPR manikins celebrating the day under a rainbow and a pot of gold claiming, “Erin learned CPR because you can’t always depend on luck.” The hat is made up of more than 19 square feet of papier–mâché and 10 pounds of glitter; it weighs nearly 200 pounds and took more than three weeks to create.

As a designated American Heart Association Training Site, CPRDelaware’s mission is to promote CPR, AED and First Aid education to improve survival rates and promote bystander assistance.

The float will be manned by residents of Fenwick Island and Pittsville, Md., dressed in the required festive Irish celebratory garb, sending treats to the spectators lining the parade route from 58th to 45th street on the south side of Ocean Highway.

The float's creators, Glenn Burns Bisogno and Evelyn Bisogno, are proud members of the Delmarva Irish American Club, which is sponsoring the parade for the 32nd year. The event boasts the second-largest parade in Maryland, attracting more than 100,000 visitors from the Delmarva Peninsula and as far away as Baltimore, Md.; New York, N.Y.; and Philadelphia, Pa.
