Bella Mia salon keeps clients looking good

April 14, 2009
Billy Crystal once said it is better to look good than to feel good, but at Bella Mia Hair Boutique, a new salon in Rehoboth Beach, customers get a chance to do both.

Bella Mia, which opened in February, is the brainchild of owners Tom and Diane Minio, along with their daughter Michelle Vietri, one of two hair stylists on staff.

“We are a full-service salon and day spa,” Vietri said. “We are specializing in Dermalogica facials, and we use all Redken products.”

The salon has all the tools to bring out one’s outer beauty. Besides facials, the salon also does waxing, nail care, Keratin treatments, So Cap Hair Extensions, hair styling and skin care. Bella Mia also has special services such as “Girls just wanna have fun!” which includes a manicure, pedicure and blow-dry for bachelorette parties or girls’ night out and bridal parties.

Vietri is one of two Redken certified hair color stylists, not just in the store, but also in all Sussex County. Vietri said Redken is the highest-selling brand of color in the world.

“Everybody is highly trained. Me and the other stylists got our Redken color certification last year. We had to go to New York to Fifth Avenue to take the test. It’s a three-part test. It’s very much an elite group of people that have taken and passed this test. I think 80 percent of the people that take it don’t pass it,” Vietri said.

Diane Minio said, “All of our employees are advanced trained. We use the highest quality of products from Pureology to Redken. We can do everything right here. Regardless of the service you choose, you can be assured that our staff is always at the leading edge of the beauty industry and ready to provide you with an hour or a day of tranquility and relaxation that enhances your appearance, rejuvenates the body and nourishes the soul.”

Dalal Hamad is one of two estheticians on staff that can do a wide variety of facials from a “Quickie” – a 30-minute facial – to a “Fountain of Youth,” which helps those with prematurely aging skin.

Hamad said the facial starts with an initial consultation, and then she starts with a double cleanse, followed by exfoliation, a massage of the arms and shoulders, a mask and finally, a scalp massage.

“We’re a full-service salon,” Minio said. “We carry the highest quality of products and have the best-trained people, we think, working here.”

The Minios originally come from Wilmington and Vietri and the staff worked at Made Ya Look before striking out on their own.

The building, located next to Casa DiLeo at the entrance to Rehoboth, was a shell when Bella Mia first got it, but the place is now alive with bright colors and lighting.

“We just tried to make a fun, unique environment. Something different. That’s why all the bright colors. We tried to have a relaxing environment for people to come and spend the day here,” Vietri said. Bella Mia is located at 37169 Rehoboth Ave. Extended and open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
