May 27, 2013

H. Carroll "Dick" Mitchell passed away at Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in New Jersey due to complications of arterial heart disease Tuesday, May 14, 2013.

In his life Dick served in the Delaware National Guard, worked as a merchant marine for a time and a furniture store owner in Rehoboth Beach, but was best known as a bartender at The Lamp Post, Fisherman's Wharf, and The Captain's Table.  Dick's life was one of celebration.  Enjoying the company of many patrons, and of family. He was a lover of Big Band music and celebrated Christmas year round. In his retirement, he was a regular for meeting friends over a cup of coffee at Walmart, and attending monthly luncheons with his graduating class members at Irish Eyes.

Dick died leaving two sisters, Judith Skelton and Florence "Libby" Campbell; two nephews, Harry Skelton of Lewes and William "Bill" Skelton of Auburndale, Fla.; two great-nephews, William Harrison Skelton, U.S. Army, and Parker Skelton in Auburndale; and one great-niece, Megan King of Byron, Ga.; and last but not least, his four-footed companion Max.

Dick was a graduate of Lewes High School, class of 1962. It was his classmates who were instrumental in providing a way to get Dicky's remains back home to his family.

The family will have a private memorial and asks that any flowers or other contributions be directed as donations to the Deborah Heart and Lung Center in New Jersey.
